The Team

Martin Vaggers HND Mech. Eng., MCIPD, Certificate in Training ITD - PHR Director & Founder

Martin has accumulated over 18 years experience within the HumanResources arena. He is a proven and enthusiastic HR professional with significant experience within the IT, Telecomms, FMCG, Electronics and Public sector markets, with a particular specialism in service industries. His proactive and consultative approach has given workable solutions to complex HR problems. Martin successfully launched Progressive Human Resources Limited in April 2003 having developed PHR’s proposition and services based on research of customer needs. Martin looks after customer projects concerning human resources management and employee development for PHR, from the planning stage, to research and implementation. In 2003 Martin acted as Head of HR for the New Opportunities Fund and undertook a review of their policies and procedures after the introduction of new employment legislation. He has also provided HR advice on contracts of employment and development of staff for a number of organisations including The Engine Room and The Clock Tower Trading. In 2004, Martin has facilitated a number of company Away days, with themes that have included Team Building & Change Management, for The Electoral Reform Society, Charity Commission and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. He also continues to run management/employee development days.

Before co-founding PHR, Martin was Human Resources Director for the integrated networks specialist, Comunica plc. Martin spent six years developing effective and strategic HR policies and practices to ensure the development of the people, matched the expansion of the business. The introduction of a comprehensive annual internal training plan provided a platform for promoting staff from within the organisation, keeping staff turnover rates at record low levels. In 2000, Martin was asked to undertake a special 2-year secondment to the non-profitable northern UK based operation. Martin primary task was to manage the entire Northern team (including sales and implementation), bringing the operation back into profit and improving morale, which he successfully achieved,

Prior to joining Comunica, Martin was at Wilco International, a member of the ADP Group. During four years of significant growth, Martin developed and managed the global HR strategy – covering the UK, USA and Hong Kong. Martin successfully put in place HR best-practice techniques that contributed to the profitability of the company, including the integration of staff (under TUPE Regulations) following a company takeover in 1996, the planned recruitment and development of over 70 graduates per annum and the introduction of an annual opinion survey.

During the late Eighties and early Nineties, Martin worked in both development and HR roles for Cereal Partners UK, a company borne out of a partnership between Nestle and General Mills, Desoutter Limited and Marconi Instruments. His experience within these organisations ranged from setting up and delivering management development programmes to managing significant downsizing projects.

Martin is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development and is fully CIPD qualified.
